This guide explains how to register a subdomain, from choosing a platform domain to seeing it appear in your account.

1. Choose a platform domain

Pick one of the domains listed on Platform domains.

2. Choose a label

Your label is the part you add in front of the platform domain, for example myproject in myproject.example-domain.com.

Naming rules:

  • Only lowercase letters, digits, and hyphens are allowed. Your label is automatically converted to lowercase, and characters outside this set are replaced with a hyphen.
  • A label must start and end with a letter or digit (not a hyphen), and can be 1 to 63 characters long.
  • The full subdomain address (your label plus the platform domain) must be no more than 253 characters in total.
  • One- and two-character labels are not available for ordinary registration.
  • On domains in the free tier, a 3-character label requires a one-time credit charge; labels of 4 or more characters are free. On other domain types, a minimum label length may apply.
  • Some names are reserved or blocked and cannot be registered ("This label is reserved." or "This subdomain name is not available.").
  • If a label is already registered under the platform domain you chose, you will see "This subdomain is already taken." Try a different label or a different platform domain.

3. Set your nameservers

You need at least one nameserver (NS1) to complete registration; up to three more (NS2–NS4) are optional. If a nameserver address is itself inside the subdomain you are registering, you must also provide a glue IPv4 or IPv6 address for it.

4. DNSSEC (if supported by the domain)

Some platform domains support adding DNSSEC DS records (key tag, algorithm, digest type, and digest) as part of registration. This section only appears if the domain you chose supports it.

5. Coupon code (optional)

If you have a coupon code, you can enter it during registration to receive a discount.

6. Free or paid

Depending on the platform domain and your label, your registration may be free or may require credits. If payment is required, you will see the price, your current credit balance, and your balance after registration before you confirm. See Premium and credits.

7. Confirm your registration

Review your choices, then select Register subdomain (or Pay [amount] and register if a charge applies).

8. Pending review, if applicable

Some registrations are held for review before they become active. If yours is, you will see a message that your registration request is pending review, and it will appear with a Pending review status. See Registration review.

9. After registration

Once complete, your subdomain appears in My subdomains. See My subdomains to manage it.
